Description
I have an advanced undergraduate degree with a Psychology Major, with double minor equivalents in linguistics. I have completed a M.A. as an Educational Sociologist focused on students impacted by learning disabilities and Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorders. Completed Master’s Thesis; "Personal and Educational Experiences of Post-Secondary Students with Learning Disabilities".
I have worked in the fields of literacy and learning for many years. Completing a major research project in literacy in 2003 published on NALD; Strategies for Success. I volunteered at Literacy Works for a number of years as a literacy tutor for adults with barriers to learning.
I coordinated an Adult Employment Program as the Destination Employment Coordinator at LDAMB for many years. I have provided workshops to parents, educators and other professionals concerned with helping children, youth and adults impacted LD/ADHD. I have developed and provided a number of workshops throughout Manitoba, Ontario Council for Exceptional Children Conference and the Canadian Association for Supported Employment. I have attended workshops from coast to coast that focus on helping individuals of all ages impacted by LD/ADHD or mental health issues.
I work with children, youth, and post-secondary students to promote literacy skills, study skills and provide academic tutoring to promote academic success. I have developed a number of study skills workshops to help students from grade seven to university students. I provide informational workshops to educators and other professionals working in the field of learning disabilities. Most of the materials used to promote literacy to students at all levels consist of software programs specifically designed to help struggling students.
