This will determine how well the finish coat of paint will stick to the surface. In preparing a surface to be painted, we will first scrape away the falling paint with a flat blade scraper. Secondly, we will sand the surface smooth, eliminating any ridges left by the paint that remains intact. We will then wipe the surface clean, prime the bare areas of wood, sealing and preparing it for a topcoat of paint. Finally, we will caulk any open joints, sealing them from moisture and further penetration underneath the surface of the wood.
