WHAT TO WEAR AND TIPS FOR YOUR SPRAY TAN:
-Exfoliate your entire body very well 24-48 hours before your spray tan. 48 hours beforehand is recommended. Avoid all moisturizers and perfumes after exfoliation. Your tan will fade as your skin cells are shed so you will want to exfoliate and take off these dead skin cells before your tan to extend the life of your color.
-Wear dark colored undergarments for your spray tan. Most women will opt to go topless, however, a strapless bra or bikini top works well for those who are uncomfortable. Use deodorant very sparingly for your spray tan and in the hours after while your tan is developing ( about 16 hours).
-Wear dark, loose fitting clothing after your spray tan. If any cosmetic bronzer gets on clothes it washes out easily in a regular wash cycle. This will not affect color development.
-Avoid showering for AT LEAST 4-6 hours after your spray tan. If you do shower within 16 hours after your tan, use water only. The bronzer will wash off in the shower. However, the DHA (dihydroxyacetone), which is the active tanning ingredient, will continue to develop giving you a beautiful bronze color.
-Avoid any activity which will cause excessive sweating. This could halt the activation of DHA color development. Also avoid chlorinated pools or spa's for at least 24 hours after your spray tan.
-Avoid cuticle oils 2 days before and 2 days after getting your sunless tan.
-Avoid shower puffs and loofahs as well as bar soaps. We recommend using a gentle, hydrating shower gel. Daily moisturizing will also extend the life of your tan.
PRODUCTS TO AVOID AFTER YOUR SPRAY TAN:
-Dove shower gel or soap
-Bar soaps, especially deodorant varieties or anti-bacterial
-Curel lotion
-Nivea moisturizer
-Hair Inhibiting Lotions
-Anti-aging products that “renew,” “refresh” or exfoliate skin
-AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids), Glycolic, Lactic, Malic, Citric, and Tartaric Acids
-BHA’s (Beta Hydroxy Acids-Salicylic Acid)
-Retin-A type products (Retin-A, Renovate, Tazorac, and Trefinoin)
-Toners containing Witch Hazel or Alcohol
-Anti-acne products that exfoliate the skin-Accutane or Salicylic Acid
-Makeup remover cleaning products or oils used to clean away eye makeup
-Use of loofa or a scrub mitt etc.
-Band-Aids or adhesive tape
-Facial masks or exfoliating scrubs
-Adhesive facial strips
-Wax hair removal
-Depilatory hair removal products …Nair, Veet, Neet etc.
-Shaving exfoliates the skin therefore fading the tan. Clients should use a new and clean razor with a lubricating product such as hair conditioner. Wash off conditioner when done. A dull razor will scrape off the tan.
-Pat dry after a shower; don’t rub dry
-Body hair bleach products
-Bug spray, when sprayed directly onto the skin can remove or fade the tan. Clients should spray clothing or a “cloud” of spray that they can walk through instead of applying directly to the skin.
-All washes and lotions with mineral oils should be avoided as they may cause rapid, poor and uneven fading. Aveeno, Jergens Original, Suave and Cetaphil are good choices. Gentle face and body washes without mineral oil or deodorants will work best to prolong your tan and keep it even.
