Description
I have been involved with the emergency services field since 1980 and have gained a wealth of valuable knowledge and skills that I pass to my students. I am a certified Ontario Ministry of Health Paramedic, and an Ontario Air Ambulance Flight Paramedic. I also served on various volunteer fire departments. I became a certified instructor in 1988 with The Canadian Red Cross.
E.R.T. remains a Training Partner with the CRC.
Because of my paramedic training and years of experience, I know that the successful recovery of a patient is greatly dependent on having properly trained people at the scene prior to the arrival of EMS. The Heart and Stroke Foundation was quoted as saying that over 85 percent of sudden cardiac arrests will occur in a home or a public place in Ontario this year, and less than five (5) percent will survive. However, with proper intervention prior to EMS arrival the success rate for these victims rises to fifty percent or higher. Even as high as 85 percent success rates have been documented. This gave me the idea for ERT and of course my slogan “TRAINING TODAY SAVES LIVES TOMORROW”. The more people trained, the more people survive. In 1985 I decided that to do my part to help solve this problem and open a training facility and became very successful in teaching the skills for saving lives. Almost anyone can learn how to perform first aid, CPR and use a cardiac defibrillator. It only takes a few hours of training.
