The Township of Muskoka Lakes mission statement clearly articulates the foundation for Economic Development:
“Maintain a strong sense of community while embracing economic enhancement and growth opportunities that respect the environment, contribute to a year round sustainable economy and enhance the quality of life of all citizens.” The year round population of the Township has grown slowly and is approximately 6,500. The highly seasonal nature of employment creates significant obstacles for year round residents. Providing improved employment opportunities and building on the successes within our community is the long-term focus of The Township of Muskoka lakes. Building on the Business Retention and Expansion Survey carried out in 2006 the former Economic Development Committee for the Township of Muskoka Lakes utilized a number of Task Forces to develop strategies for the future. Like much of Ontario we have a shortage of Doctors and other professionals and are actively encouraging professionals to consider the Township of Muskoka Lakes.
