Description
Nelephant Montessori School is a not-for-profit parent co-operative school that is committed to providing a true Montessori experience for young children.
Nelephant Montessori School was founded in 1971 when a group of parents decided they wanted a program that provided children with the opportunity to develop into self-reliant, confident, independent learners. What these parents started has helped to shape and form many capable, confident, problem-solving, happy children. Today we continue to provide an environment that is a very loving, family-oriented, nurturing place for both the child and his/her family. Some of the children who were past students of our school, have now enrolled their own children because they had such an amazing, life-changing experience!
At Nelephant Montessori we provide both a Toddler Program (18 months – 3 years) and a Casa Level Program (3 to 6 years). This period of time in a child’s development is crucial, and where they begin their educational experience can literally change what type of human being they become. An authentic Montessori education can ensure that the whole child’s needs are nurtured; mind, body and spirit.
We have been a CCMA accredited school since 2003. Being certified by the Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators (CCMA) ensures that your child is immersed in a Montessori program that is following authentic Montessori guidelines. Because the Montessori name is not protected, not all programs advertising Montessori are following Montessori’s guidelines or delivering a Montessori curriculum. One way to ensure a genuine Montessori program is by looking for a school that is CCMA Accredited.
Our community is one that involves the parents at every level of our school. Nelephant Montessori has a volunteer, elected parent Board, various committees that parents can serve on, and several events that allow the parents to witness first-hand how the classroom functions. Every parent is offered the opportunity to observe in their child’s classroom twice per year, attend a “Bring Your Parent to School Night” twice per year and have a sit down Parent/Teacher Interview twice per year. We have these events because we feel it is crucial that parents are aware and involved when it comes to their child’s developmental path.
